U.S. SOCCER’S HEADING INITIATIVE

It has been shown that purposeful heading—if taught correctly—does not lead to concussions. Nevertheless, please follow the recommendations to reduce exposure to possible head injuries for younger age groups.

  • U11 and younger (age 10 years and under) participants should not head the ball in practices.
  • U12 and U13 (aged 11 to 13) participants should be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per week, with no more than 15-20 headers per player, per week.
  • There are no restrictions in place on heading for U14 and up.
